How it works:
- Subscribers download the Audible Audio Manager or use iTunes software to manage audio downloads
- Books,
magazine articles and newspapers are then downloaded to your computer
and can be burned to a CD or uploaded to a mobile device.
- New
mobile features can update your mobile device "over the air" with
the daily newspaper, the latest section of the book you are reading and
other advanced features.
My thoughts: Wow. I've been an Audible subscriber for several years and it changed how I "read". In fact, rarely do I read books anymore.
My initial hesitation was, when would I have time to listen to a book.
For me, the turning point was when I began listening to books on my
ipod while running. For many others, it is in the car during their
commute.
The logistics of getting the book to a device where I could listen was
key to my enjoyment. Downloading from the Audible site is fast - a
typical book takes 3-5 minutes with a broadband connection. Audible's
software easily populates iTunes software with downloaded files. From
there, you can burn the file onto a CD or transfer to your ipod or
other portable device.
Who it is good for: If
reading a book, newspaper or magazine is about the experience of
cracking it open and relaxing on the couch, wait until ebook technology
improves before jumping to a digital format. However, if efficiently
consuming information is more important than the experience, Audible is
for you.
