What it does: Podfitness has developed a clever way to receive all the benefits of a personal trainer by integrating customized workouts on top of your music downloadable to your MP3 player.

How it works:

  • Subscribers download the Podfitness application and complete a subscriber profile - choosing a workout type (running, weights, etc.), along with which real-life fitness trainer they prefer.
  • The application effortlessly sorts through your iTunes playlists and makes recommendations as to which songs to include on your workout playlist.
  • Podfitness then overlays a customized workout on top of your music, inserting workout instructions, motivation, and ongoing support between and during songs.
  • New workouts can be downloaded up to twice/day!

My thoughts: Interesting and entertaining service that definitely livened up my workouts. Technology worked seamlessly and integrated well with iTunes software. My chosen trainer gave good advice during runs and kept me thinking about posture and form. Having the trainer interject motivation into my playlist seemed to give my music new life!  Podfitness works with music burned from CDs and some music subscription services; however it does not work with music purchased through iTunes music store.
